Topic 2 _ THU ĐOÀN

The controversial topic about the role of mothers and fathers in raising children has been attracting public attention. While some people insist that men cannot make parents as well as women, others stand in stark contrast to them. From the point of view on eastern nations and differences in parenting, I fervently support the first opinion.

To begin with, characteristics of Eastern societies exert important influences on opinion about the role of mothers in bringing up children. First, traditional impressions indicate that women play a central role in taking care of children, as well as educating them. These opinions are generally accepted in these countries nowadays because not only Eastern people respect tradition, but also men are still in main earning money commitment. Second, they often think that infants and toddlers are so vulnerable that they need particular protection from parents. During childhood, they cannot but ask parents’ permission for almost everything. Despite of being more mature, they often have to follow counsels of their fussy parents. This educational way obviously makes them lack self-reliance. It explains the reason why children in these countries eventually need a person with more constant and tender loving care that seems to be heavily involved in mothers.

Moreover, there are wide differences in the way fathers and mothers raise their children. Men tend to be too permissive, but in some cases, too strict. For instance, they frequently allow children do everything they want without considering what might happen to them. They sometimes discipline children for their mistakes, but these punishments are always stricter than mothers’ are. Additionally, earning money has absorbed fathers for most of the time, so they spend little time taking care of children. That might widen the gap between father and child, and make children disobey fathers’ advices. By contrast, mothers usually display affectionate behavior, as well as use love to discipline their children. They take hours to play with the child, care for them when sick, and so on. They are attentive to what the child do, and think. These activities make children feel themselves being in care and love.

To conclude, in most of the countries, mothers are better at raising children than fathers. Therefore, all of us should have a more respectful view on them even they are only housewives, especially in male chauvinism countries.
